Project Gaia has chosen the CleanCook stove. This stove burns alcohol fuel without smoke, is easy to use, is highly efficient, and affordable to run. The stove is stable, and the fuel is stored safely in a non-spill fuel tank. But what does this really mean to a family living in poverty?
It means that women and their children can maintain good health with fewer visits to health centers, free of burns or lung diseases like pneumonia.

These women will treasure their new stoves; they are essential for healthy living.

It means that they will not spend hours every day gathering woodfuel, nor will they have to fear the dangers that accompany it, such as beatings, wild animals, falls, and exhaustion.
Women who no longer need to gather woodfuel can earn extra money, grow more food, seek better educations, and spend time with their children in homes unpolluted by harmful soot.
Local fuel production will create jobs for adults as workers in distilleries that produce alcohol fuel.
